What’s in Store during the 2010 New Zealand International Arts Festival

Drama on Display as Revolt of the Mannequins comes to Robyn Mathieson Wellington

Something extraordinary will be happening in the windows of stores across Wellington during this year’s New Zealand International Arts Festival, 26 February – 31 March. Robyn Mathieson is delighted to be taking part – and we hope our customers will come and join us in experiencing this enchanting theatrical event!

Arts Festival

Revolt of the Mannequins is street entertainment like you’ve never seen before, brought to New Zealand as part of the Festival by French company Royal de Luxe.  Combining gorgeous imagery, engineering talent and storytelling prowess, they transform the idea of the mannequin into pure comic strip brilliance. This ingenious free event will infiltrate the city over ten days, and along with nine other stores, Our Wellington store windows will become a stage for the action! Forty mannequins will be fixed in place every day across each store and changed every night so the stories can evolve on the streets of Wellington during Festival 2010.

The personal adventures of the mannequins make addictive viewing – Wellingtonians and visitors to the city will be captivated daily with the activities of these miraculous beings. Stories include Eat Your Soup If You Want to Grow up Big and Strong (Borders) and The Lovers (Stax), and our very own story Evil Tale For Other People’s Children. So make sure you don’t miss the escapades of these wondrous creations when you visit the store!

Full details of all 2010 New Zealand International Arts Festival events can be found on the Festival website [nzfestival.nzpost.co.nz] along with details of the other stores taking part. Keep an eye out for the Revolt of the Mannequins map that will lead you from story to story, available at our store counter.

Peggy Sue WOWs passers-by on Featherston Street

If you’re heading down Wellington’s Featherston Street this week you can’t miss Peggy Sue, our entry in this year’s Montana WOW® Awards Retail Competition. She really shows another use for all those old clothes pegs…we’re now just waiting to hear if we’ve won. The theme is Wellington is all dressed up for WOW® and the winners get tickets to the show, a voucher for Logan Brown and some Montana Brut Cuvee.

If you haven’t yet managed to see it the 21st Montana World Of Wearableart™ (WOW®) Awards Show had its audience laughing, crying and holding its breath as 165 garments performed amongst an extravaganza of comedy from the Topp Twins, graffiti art, hip-hop, live percussion, spontaneous combustion and the odd rabbit. We think that Peggy Sue would have been a great addition to the show although we don’t think that she would have beaten the supreme winner – Lady of Wood – a sensational creation from David Walker from Alaska.

We wait with bated breath…

Lights, camera, action…

Filming for World Expo

Filming for World Expo

Monday turned out to be a hectic day in our Featherston Street store. A film crew were there shooting footage for the New Zealand Pavillion at the next World Expo in Shanghai, China. Shanghai is one of the world’s most dynamic cities, and the World Expo it will host in 2010—with the theme of “Better Cities, Better Life”—promises to be one of the greatest shows on earth. Story Inc is developing the visitor experience for the New Zealand Pavilion, as part of a multidisciplinary consortium including Architecture Warren + Mahoney and Coffey Projects.

They’re using the footage to showcase life in New Zealand and we’re the only fashion designer and store featured! So with 14million visitors expected in a city of 20million it can only be good for business.

Topping it all off was the fact that our very own store manager, Kate Breeze, ended up being one of the stars of the show. She of course looked stunning in one of Robyn Mathieson’s dresses from the summer range, Carousel.

For more information on the Expo and New Zealand’s involvment check out the nzte website.
